Kids: Cyanotype for Young Minds

In a world where many young people can instantly recognise corporate brands — but struggle to name even ten local plants — this workshop offers a joyful, hands-on way to reconnect with the green friends we share the planet with. Cyanotype is a magical combination of art and science, inviting children to play, experiment, and see the world around them differently.
🌿 What’s a cyanotype?
It’s a safe, sunlight-powered photographic printing process that turns paper blue! Using natural objects like ferns, feathers, flowers - or even toys! - children create their own shadow compositions. The result? Stunning blue-and-white prints that spark curiosity and pride.
🧒 Workshops for all ages:
There are several options for children and teens, tailored to age and attention span:
-
Ages 3–7: Playful and simple - i'll use pre-collected flowers and leaves, or favourite small toys to make joyful sun prints. Will need additional adult supervision.
-
Ages 8–12: More structured - kids can forage their own plants and start experimenting with layout, layering and storytelling. Will need additional adult supervision.
-
Ages 13+: Teens might want to create wearable art by printing onto fabric or old T-shirts — or create a themed collection of prints using personal items, drawings, or even words.
🎉 Perfect for:
-
Birthday parties
-
School enrichment activities
-
Holiday camps
-
Forest schools or outdoor classrooms
-
Creative afternoons at home
📦 I bring all tools and materials with me, including specialist paper, natural objects (unless you’d like to collect your own!), and a portable UV-friendly setup if the sun isn't shining. Workshops can take place at your home, school or community space - all I need is a bit of sunshine or somewhere to plug in the UV lights.
