What to expect in a workshop

Curious about how a cyanotype workshop with me actually works? Let me give you a feel for what it’s like!
Each workshop can be tailored to your specific needs — whether it's a chilled afternoon activity, a creative birthday, or part of a public event — but the general format usually goes something like this:
You bring me into your venue — and I’ll bring everything else!
That includes hand-coated cyanotype paper, a large pressed flower collection, and any additional objects we want to print with (think feathers, lace, jewellery, even old photo negatives). We can also print on tote bags, clothing, or larger paper if you’d like to go bigger.
I begin with a brief intro to cyanotype — a magical, Victorian-era photographic printing process that uses UV light to develop vivid blue artwork using plants and objects.
Then we have a relaxed, inspiring chat about the plants we're using. This part is always a favourite — drawing on ideas from Robin Wall Kimmerer, we reflect on our relationship with the natural world and the beauty of the plants we often overlook.
After that, I’ll give a demonstration of how to make a cyanotype print from start to finish.
And then… it’s over to you!
Participants get to dive in, experimenting with the materials, composing their designs, and making their own prints — all with my guidance and encouragement. It’s hands-on, intuitive, and hugely satisfying.

Format & Flexibility:
- Workshop Length: Usually around 1.5 hours, but I can tailor it longer or shorter depending on your needs.
- Group Size: I can work with most group sizes, but the current sweet spot is up to 20 people, depending on space.
- Location: I'm based in Surrey but very happy to travel - just let me know your venue and we’ll work it out.
- Materials: Standard paper is about postcard-sized, but I can also prep larger paper or fabric items if you'd like to create something bigger or more bespoke.
- Who It’s For: Anyone and everyone! Whether you’re a total beginner or an experienced artist, there’s something here for you. Adults, children, families, friends, teams — all are welcome.
This isn’t just a workshop — it’s an invitation to slow down, make something beautiful with your hands, and walk away with new knowledge, new artwork, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
Let’s make something magical together 🌿✨
