Inspired by the knitted teddy bear motifs featured in the exhibition, you'll learn the basics of crochet while creating your own adorable flat teddy bear keychain trinket.

Whether you've never picked up a crochet hook before or you're looking for a relaxing creative session, this workshop is designed to help you learn something new, while making something unique to take home. Choose from a colourful selection of yarns to create a funky teddy trinket that's completely your own. By the end of the session, you'll leave with your finished keychain, a new creative skill, and the satisfaction of having made something by hand alongside fellow makers.

About

Inspired by the rich history of heraldry, this session invites you to reimagine the idea of a personal emblem for the modern day. Using the Victorian photographic process of cyanotype, you'll print an A4 piece of cotton fabric with imagery that tells your story. Whether it's flowers, leaves, meaningful objects, photo negatives, words, drawings, or symbols that reflect your identity, this is an opportunity to create something deeply personal. Explore what matters to you, experiment with composition, and leave with a one-of-a-kind textile banner that celebrates your interests, memories, community, or values.
 The medieval art of Heraldry emerged from the battlefield, but today we’re going to use it to tell our story. No previous experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to play with this beautiful process.

What to Expect

Daisy will bring her large selection of pressed flowers, feathers, stencils and
interesting objects and all materials are provided. However, feel free to bring any small object that represent you such as lace, jewellery, photo negatives, stencils, or plants. Each participant will get one A4 piece of cotton fabric prepared with cyanotype, ready to use.

Step inside one of London's most spectacular hidden gems and spend an afternoon making beautiful cyanotype prints inspired by the natural world.

Taking inspiration from the teachings of botanist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer, this workshop is an invitation to slow down, pay attention to the natural world and think about our relationship with the plants and materials around us.

You'll get to use flowers from a large collection of pressed plants, leaves, lace, stencils, photographic negatives and other interesting objects to create your own compositions.

You don't need to be "good at art" as there are no rules and no previous experience is necessary. Cyanotype is a very accessible, DIY process, and part of the magic is seeing how your ideas transform when they're exposed to light.

Who is it for?

Ages 12+. Children under 12 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Whether you're a seasoned maker or simply curious to try something completely new, you're very welcome.
