Three Rare photographs of War Ship HMS Foudroyant (1798) printed with Cyanotype

This ship print blew up on TikTok! And for good reason, it's of an old war ship called the HMS Foudroyant (1798) that was once Nelsons flagship. I printed it using a camera less photographic process called cyanotype which comes from the 1840s and uses UV light or the sun to print a blue image.

I used a antique glass photo plate, which was what was used as film over 100 years ago. An ideal gift for ship lovers, navy enthusiasts, history buffs, photography lovers and art enthusiasts. Cyanotype prints are real photographs, using the sun or UV light, to process paper painted with cyanotype chemical. When exposed, the print turns a gorgeous Prussian blue, and when washed, leaves behind an x-ray image of the photo negative.

I write the name and date of the ship at the top of the print in pencil and my name is signed on the bottom front right corner.

Each one of these prints are made to order, so they will differ slightly, but that's the beauty of it - it is a one of handmade product!

It's science meets art while painting with sunlight! The paper is A6 in size.

Each fine grain - heavyweight paper (200g/m^2) is hand cut, hand painted and made fresh to order, they’ll differ slightly – but that is the beauty of it! I leave a small white border and try to show a little of the brush strokes for extra interest. The prints can be framed, used as a card or given as a gift. I'll write the name of the ship in pencil at the top of the page.
